Today is my day off from working out, but it was too cold to run outdoors. So I ended up doing some simple strengthening exercises at the Y, including arm pulls ...
... and scapular pull ups.
I often hear people saying they're trying to get in the best shape of their life. Don't say that. If you say your trying to get in shape it will not happen because when you say "trying" you're basically saying I'm going to attempt it and when things get hard I can stop. No no no! You are not trying to get in shape. You ARE an athlete. What you are doing makes you an athlete, not some mental picture of who you want to be someday. What I'm saying is, the person who is active day in and day out is the true athlete, because athletics is a way of life. It's the daily things you do to get there that makes you an athlete. Becoming fit is the byproduct of your way of life. You've made a commitment that you want to live this lifestyle until the day you die. You want to be a fit guy who lives a fit lifestyle not only because it's the right thing to do (your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit) but because you want your children and grandchildren to respect you and it's how you want them to grow up. You are not training just to lose body fat or to be able to climb a mountain in the Alps. You are training because you are an athlete and you act in a way that's congruent with your identity.
Remember: You are accountable to no one but yourself, because you are the only one who really cares enough to change your body and the only person who can cause that change to take place.
Have a wonderful day!
