If You're New to Lifting (13)
If you're like me, you came to lifting at an older age. Don't let that hold you back. You can become roughly the same man or woman you were at 45 or 50 until you are 80 or beyond. That's because there's a critical distinction between aging and decay. You can't do a lot about your biological aging. Like me, you're probably getting a little weaker and slower. You have gray hair. Your skin wrinkles. But most of what we call aging is actually decay. Aging is real; decay is optional. You do not have to feel or act old. Many of us will live well into our 80s and 90s. That's up to the Lord. But how we live those years is largely up to us. The amazing news is that we can reverse aging about 70 percent by physical exercise. There is not a medicine in the world that can come vaguely near it. Aerobic activity is the most important exercise for longevity. Strength training had the greatest impact for quality of life. And doing both is much easier than you think. This stuff works when you're 20 or when you're 70.
