As you know, my running form sucks. I started running knowing nothing about anything. Seems there's a proper way to run and a not-so-proper way to run. Who knew? Here's a short litany of issues that plague me:
- My posture is terrible. I lean forward (hunch) too much.
- I pull with my hamstrings. I should be pushing with my core.
- My elbows should be at 90 degrees but they aren't.
- I force my pelvis to move rather than just letting it rotate naturally.
This whole running business is largely out of my comfort zone. Thank God I'm not afraid to try it anyway. For the record, I've got a big race coming up in May, May 9th to be exact. We're talking 50K, baby. I am about do something incredibly self-indulgent. I am far from being un ultra runner who would turn anyone's head. I do, however, apparently have great endurance, which is required for anyone who is crazy enough to enter a 32-mile trail run. Oh, and did I tell you that runners have the ugliest toes of anyone? I've never had nice-looking toes, but since I've started running they have become simply revolting. At least my dead toenail finally dropped off last night. I'm going to use it for storage.
Can someone pay for me to have a manicure or maybe a toe transplant?
Anyhoo, if you want to know why I try to get so many steps in every day, the one word answer is "ultra." I am inspired. Motivated. I want to do this. The ultra experience is all about "survival." That's pretty much it.
Today's run.
And steps.
