We went to see Five Summer Stories in Long Beach. It was one of the best surfing movies ever made. It was an amazing, memorable first date!
Surfing movies have such a distinctive, carefree vibe about them. We got to enjoy the visuals without awkward silences. The filmmaker used advanced, high-speed cameras to capture the mechanics of wave-riding in crisp, unprecedented detail.
It was as though you were on the wave yourself. The movie featured a professional stereo soundtrack by the group Honk as well as the Beach Boys. The cinematographer Bud Browne put audiences directly inside the barrel at Pipeline. This was Becky's introduction to surf culture.
She got to see surfing not just as a hobby but as a legitimate art form and lifestyle. It instantly immersed her into the nature-loving mindset of her future husband. It kicked off a lifetime of beach trips.
