I Am a Runner

After doing exhaustive research into the subject, I have concluded that runners come in three speeds: 1) faster than me; 2) much faster than me; and 3) faster than I will ever be. Not one part of my body seems designed for speed. Not even my long legs. There have been occasions when I've run a race and been beaten badly by a person whose legs were decidedly shorter than mine.

I will never have a runner's body. That's a given. Therefore I'm concentrating on having a runner's soul. After all, it isn't speed than makes you a runner, nor is it the shoes, the socks, the clothes, or the hat. It's running. Just running. I realize that everytime I lace up my shoes and go out for a run, as I did today.

I realize that everytime I get in my daily miles.

I am a runner. A real runner. Not just someone who goes for a run. But a runner.

So are you.
