Tomorrow I will be attending the services at Duke Chapel in Durham for my yearly fix of great organ music. Just think. Thousands of pipes. Four keyboards. A single instrument. A pipe organ is a musical miracle -- wood and metal tuned to do one thing: make the mechanics disappear into the music. The organ will feature two of Bach's classic organ pieces: Prelude in G Major, and Fugue in G Major.
Tomorrow is "All Saints Day." I can't wait to sing the opening hymn "For All the Saints," written by Anglican bishop William Walsham How with music composed by the great English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. The opening verse of the hymn honors the "great cloud of witnesses" -- my precious Becky included -- who lived and died in faith, paving the way for future generations. The climax of the hymn portrays the second coming of Christ, culminating in an eternal chorus of praise to the Trinity.
Can't wait!
