Studying Is a Humbling Experience

I told my Greek class last night that, despite the fact that I've been teaching Greek for 5 decades, I feel like a small child wading on the shore of a limitless ocean whenever I read my Greek New Testament. The greatest students in life never graduate. That's why in the ISV we rendered didaktikos in 1 Tim. 3:2 as "teachable" rather than "able to teach" (the lexicons allow both renderings). This kind of intellectual humility is valuable because it keeps you open to learning.

The wisest people I know are the most humble.
