Up early on a brisk, 33-degree morning to get in a quick visit to Appomattox before church and add a few pictures and videos to my collection of Civil War sites.
How blessed I am to live in a state that is so rich in history. Fun fact: Contrary to popular belief, the surrender documents were not signed at the actual courthouse (pictured here).
They were signed at the Wilmer McLean House.
The name of the village was Appomattox Court House because this is how they named county government seats back in the 19th century. Hence the confusion.
If these walls could talk, what stories they would tell!
