The Will to Strive, to Seek, to Find

Nice ultra training run after church today.

Needed to get in my weekly miles since I had to miss my workout on Friday (when I was at Liberty all day).

Tennyson once had Ulysses say, "And though we are not now the strength which in old days moved heaven and earth, that which we are, we are -- made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."

We aging ultramarathoners already know that getting to the starting line is what really counts. The race itself is merely the victory lap. You're aware that something special has happened. You realize that no matter what happens during those 32 miles, you will be a changed person. The race is just another step in the endless, restless pursuit to become the person you are.
