Let's Talk about LOVE

Let's do something different today. Let's talk about LOVE. I use all caps because the word is an acronym (go here; yes, I've tweaked it). So, with Mother's Day behind us, and Father's Day coming up, why not take a fresh look at what is maybe the greatest word in any language, including Hawaiian (aloha)?

L = When you love someone, you listen to them. If you love someone, you don't ignore them. You pay attention.

O = When you love someone, you overlook their minor faults and failings. Hardly a week passes when we don't all fail at something. Love overlooks that.

V = When you love someone, you value them. You value their time and their opinions. You value their feelings.

E = When you love someone, you express that love to them. Love is not really love at all until it is expressed. Love isn't something you only think about. Or you just feel. Love isn't so much a thought or a feeling as it is a decision. Love, as I pointed out elsewhere, is a verb

So there you have it:

L = Listen

O = Overlook

V = Value

E = Express

To my kids, I'd like to say thank you. Thank you for loving your father like this. I hope you feel loved in return.

I L-O-V-E you,

Dad
