Here are some key life lessons that surfing has taught me and that apply to the study of Greek.
1. Humility. Ocean waves are extremely powerful. They remind us that we are not always in control. So it's important to focus on things we can control: our attitude and our effort.
2. Presence. Both surfing and studying Greek require being fully engaged in the current time and place rather than being distracted. Always be ready to seize the opportunity.
3. Patience. Surfers do not make waves come to them. They wait for the right moment and match its rhythm. Mastering Greek is impossible without patience. Good things come to those that wait.
4. Resilience. Wiping out on a wave is guaranteed to teach you how to stay calm under water and try again. A bad grade on one quiz or exam doesn't define you. Get back up and try again.
