Standing against the consensus in your field can be professionally isolating. However, it can also be intellectually exhilarating. In my books such as Why Four Gospels? and The Authorship of Hebrews: The Case of Paul I championed minority views that were, paradoxically, majority views for most of church history.
I would never have written these books had I not shifted from a passive consumer of established dogma to an active challenger of it. Interestingly, along the way I discovered a small network of like-minded dissenters.
If the road feels lonely, you're probably heading somewhere worth going.
