Just a few thoughts on Paul's earliest triad in 1 Thess. 1:3.
Isn't it beautiful?
Every Christian is a believer, a lover, and a hoper. We are drawn upward toward God, outward toward others, and forward toward the Parousia. Faith looks to the past, love works in the present, hope looks to the future. Furthermore,
- Faith works. It always leads to Spirit-produced good deeds.
- Love labors. It always leads us to labor to the point of weariness for others.
- Hope endures. It always produces steadfast endurance as we wait for the Lord's return.
Little wonder Calvin called this verse "a brief definition of true Christianity."
Have a lovely day!
