Kent Hughes, formerly pastor of the historic College Church in Wheaton, wrote an excellent book called Disciplines of a Godly Man. In it he wrote:
"We'll never get anywhere in life without discipline, be it in the arts, business, athletics, or academia. This is doubly true in spiritual matters."
One of these disciplines is called trust. Wouldn't it be great if we Christians could perfect a trust in God, a confidence that he knows what he's doing, and because of that we lean hard on him even when we can't figure things out? That is my desire this day and every day of my life -- to believe what he has written in his word and then connect it to what's going on in my life, even when I can't see my way through.
The discipline of trust in God. I don't see how we can make it through life without it.
