The 2021 North Hills 5K

Hey folks. Me again. Ever heard of the Backpack Buddies program of North Raleigh Ministries?

Its goal is to help combat food insecurity experienced by children in the greater Raleigh area. This Saturday they're having a fundraiser called the North Hills 5K.

This also happens to be September 11, which would have been my 45th wedding anniversary. I've signed up for the race so I am trying to get the word out about this fun event. If you live in the greater Raleigh/Durham area consider running with us. Keep in mind, this is not just a race, it's a celebration of community. My goal will be to simply finish the 3.1 miles. That will probably mean a finish time of around 35 minutes. My 5K PR is 27 minutes. But finishing times mean a lot less to me today than when I started running 6 years ago, partly because I know my fastest times are behind me but also because today I run mostly to enjoy being physically active. Add to that the joy of helping a worthy cause, and you have the recipe for a fun morning. Come join us!

P.S. There's also a 100-yard dash for kids beginning at 8:45 am, and a senior stroll on an indoor track for people ages 60 and older that begins at 9:00 am.
