How to Change the Country We Love

Here's something you may have heard. In fact, I may have said something like this myself:

"Don't try to clean up culture from the outside. That's like trying to solve the ills of society by washing the outside of the cup, as Jesus said. True cultural change comes from within. Only when people are transformed by the gospel and given a new heart and a new orientation will there be a new society."

There's a lot of truth in this statement. But I only partially agree with it. If you say, "I don't want to see abortion illegal; I was to see it unthinkable!", I understand the sentiment perfectly. Personally, though, I'd rather see both.

In this turbulent hour in American history, the greatest message the world can hear from us Christians is the gospel. So let's never stop telling people about the radical, revolutionary, life-changing Good News about Jesus Christ. But if we can invade commerce and industry, the arts and the family, morals and government, and education and learning with biblical principles, I think the country we all love will be better off for it.
