As you all know, swimming has re-entered my life with a vengeance. I'm a good swimmer but not an excellent one by any means. Today I had a hard swim workout at the Y that really taxed me. My legs especially feel like they worked overtime. Seriously, how can one's legs feel more tired after swimming than after running? I don't get it.
At my current pace, I figure I can swim 750 meters in about 40 minutes. Of course, once you factor in any wind-blown swells that might be in the lake as well as the possibility of getting elbowed or kicked by your fellow swimmers, that number is likely to be higher. Here's the course map for next weekend's race.
The order is: swim, bike, run. I'm glad they do the swim first. I find biking and running way easier than swimming.
So, I go into this race with fear and trepidation. But then I remember that you'll never get anywhere in life by failing to show up because of your insecurities. Besides, doing what scares you makes you grow, right?
P.S. This week's workouts, Lord willing:
- Monday: Lift.
- Tuesday: Run.
- Wednesday: Bike.
- Thursday: Swim.
- Friday: Rest day.
- Saturday: Drive to Luray for Sunday's race.
Wish me well!
