You may have heard that ancient texts were written very differently than modern texts. This is certainly true of the earliest manuscripts of the Greek New Testament. 

There were written in all caps with no spacing between between words and very little punctuation. There was no thought of reading swiftly or speedily. The absence of spacing was not considered a hindrance to effective reading but just the opposite. Look at the following: 

IWANTYOUTOKNOWBROTHERSTHATWHATHASHAPPENEDTOMEHASACTUALLYHELPEDTHEPROGRESSOFTHEGOSPEL

Notice how you had to slow down to read these words from Philippians? This is how people read for centuries. Your eyes had to slow down and so did your brain. Each word lingered in your mind. It was like working on a jigsaw puzzle. 

Likewise, as you read your Bible, don't be in too big of a hurry. Bible study is so important that it deserves our most careful consideration!
